Personal Life
Growing up, Keene often moved and switched two schools namely Churchfields Junior School and Divine Saviour Roman Catholic School before enrolling at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in 2009.
She was to attend a local grammar school initially but couldn’t secure a place in it. After her mother learned Mimi was on the “gifted register” for singing and dancing in primary school, she joined the stage school.
She spent five years at the drama school. While getting her acting skills sharpened, she began making stage appearances. Her stage credits include Kin at Royal Court Theatre.
Career
Mimi Keene began making acting appearances even before graduating from Italia Conti. Her debut appearance was in Sadie J where she played a cameo as Brandy May Lou in the third season.
That year, she debuted her voice by voicing multiple characters for the video game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate. Also, she was introduced as Cindy Williams in the soap opera EastEnders.
Across two years, she was seen in 120 episodes. She also played Cindy Williams in the TV movie GreaseEnders: Children in Need Special in 2014. She only made two appearances between 2016 and 2018.
In 2019, she secured the lead role of Ruby Matthews in the Netflix TV series Sex Education. That year, she also acted in two movies Close and Tolkien.
Her role as Ruby changed her acting career. She appeared in that role in all four episodes alongside notable personalities such as Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee Lou Wood, and others.
Her most recent acting performance was in the feature film After Everything as Nathalie in 2023. Her future projects include the TV series Towards Zero as Kay under the direction of Sam Yates.
